The creative industries & micro-entrepreneurs take the hardest hit when comes to disruption in the economy. The Chancellor has committed to helping small businesses in the form of ɪɴᴄᴏᴍᴇ sᴜᴘᴘᴏʀᴛ and ʟᴏᴀɴ ᴇxᴛᴇɴsɪᴏɴs, but do you reckon is that really enough? 😑
If you’ve been keeping with us this week you know we caught up with three of our talented babes to understand how it’s affecting their creative practices in the day to day. We put together the the best tips to make a *✰ 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐮𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥 𝐆𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐞 *✰ for 𝓬𝓻𝓮𝓪𝓽𝓲𝓿𝓮 𝓫𝓾𝓼𝓲𝓷𝓮𝓼𝓼 𝓸𝔀𝓷𝓮𝓻𝓼!ᕙ( •̀ ᗜ •́ )ᕗ

The Chancellor hailed small businesses as the “heart of our economy” and offered cuts to employment taxes and business rates but is that enough support from our government in this recession and cost of living crisis? 😪
We interviewed 𝟑 𝒄𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒚 to understand and see through the lens of creatives living in London- what it’s like to live in these times amidst the rising rent rates and huge stacks of bills, not to mention the struggle to raise funds to support our dream businesses or passion projects.

@shanagujral - an angel investor by the day and a DJ and radio host by night, talks about how COLC has led her to stick to traditional tried and tested ways of working and planning gigs ahead of time. “As a self-employed creative, it’s normal to worry about what’s around the corner, whereas before I felt I could take a lot of risks. Upping your day rate could feel scary but it’s imperative seeing the time we are living in now,”- she explains the reality of today.

𝓩𝓸𝓮 𝓣- Founder of @sweetthangzine talks about how COLC has affected her relationship with money and the very real anxiety around raising your freelance rate as creative and having that stability for yourself. Also not being too hard on oneself and finding a co-work space to develop a good workflow, leaning more into the local community that cares about people and offers a support system.
